Welcome to the Sacred Heart Cathedral
The Yokohama Sacred Heart Cathedral is the oldest Church in Japan having been built in 1862 when the country re-opened to the outside world. It is the seat of the Yokohama Diocese and is also a Parish known to the Japanese as the Yamate Catholic Church whose Head Priest is Fr. Michael Suzuki Makoto.
In addition to the usual Japanese faithful community, the Cathedral has been traditionally hosting an English-speaking International Community for individuals who have difficulties with Japanese and so can practice their faith in a more familiar language.
