The Yokohama Sacred Heart Cathedral, also known by the Japanese as Yamate Catholic Church, is the oldest Church in Japan built in 1862 when the country re-opened to the outside world. It hosts both Japanese and English-speaking communities.
Sacred Heart Cathedral’s International Community is an active one and offers the possibility of practicing one’s faith in English for individuals who have difficulties with Japanese. The International Community has all the activities of a Parish from regular Sunday Masses, confessions, catechism, Bible study and Prayer groups as well as preparation to sacraments, Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation and Marriage.
Our Pastor is Fr. Darryl Santos Diño
Ladies and gentlemen, Hello. I would like to introduce myself.
I am Darryl Diño. I am a Filipino and a Vincentian priest. When I became as a priest, I was already thirty six years old. I was born in 1979 and ordained in 2016, and the first year of my priesthood were served as an assistant priest In Iloilo, Philippines. After a year, I was sent for a foreign mission here in Japan. I live in Sueyoshicho Church while studying the Japanese language.
When I was young, I did not dream to become a priest. However, God uses a unique path to give us a message! Inside a church bulletin board in Manila, I saw a poster picture of two missionary priests. They are riding a motorcycle and with a bag in their back. They are going to a distant mountain place. The poster had a text on top saying "To go where there is of greatest need." The words strongly touched my heart. It was this time that I entered into the Congregation of the Mission.
This year, the bishop appointed me here in Yamate Catholic Church. My friends, I humbly ask you to pray for me.
“May the Lord make your love increase and overflow for each other and for everyone else.” - 1 Thessalonians 3:12
