Church Closure and Masses
On March 17, 2019, a piece of the ceiling in the Sacred Heart Cathedral (Yamate Catholic Church) fell on the ground. From then on, both aisles of the Church have been closed for safety reasons but thereafter, a specialist contracted to check the building soundness has reported other weaknesses. Based on this report findings and after many discussions, the Parish Council and the Parish Head Priest have decided for the safety of the faithful and visitors to prohibit access to the whole upper part of the Church.
We are sorry for the inconvenience thus caused and hope that you will understand that this has been done for the safety of all. Masses that were celebrated in the Church are now conducted mainly in the Church’s basement Hall.

Safety concerns, following the fall of parts of the ceiling in the Church

from July 20, 2019 to end of July 2020 (forecast)

Masses:
Sunday Masses (including anticipated Saturday Masses) will be celebrated at usual time in the Basement Hall or in the Rectory. However, because of the reduced space, Masses may not always be able to accommodate all attendants. In addition, when actual repairs will start, part of the parking will be use for storage of equipment and material. It is recommended for those who can to consider attending Sunday Masses in nearby Churches.
